And edited. The last inconsistency has been trailed to its lair and destroyed by fire and steel.
Absent one of the Five Archangels of American Publishing suffering an epiphany and elevating book 2 to that rarefied stratum of bookdom, I guess I will have to find someone to print this for me.
I know that there are several steps yet to accomplish:
Developmental Editing: I did that last time with iUniverse, and it was an immense help, but I believe the lessons have been learned.
Copy Editing: Just completed that through First Editing and still wondering how I can have so many spelling errors after running it through MS Word and Grammarly. Of course, invaluable experience. “Virginia” caught some intentional and unintentional malapropisms, but for the most part, I took her advice.
Now what I need to do is:
Cover design: I want it to look like a relative of the first book:
without being a clone. As much of the action as well as the title suggests Malila and Hecate’s subterranean escape route, I thought I might start with this open source image
But, I am leaving this to the designer.
Interior Design: Do you have any idea how hard that is to search online without getting a long list of people who want to feng shui you and your home to a fare thee well? What I want is someone who wants to make the actual text emit the same vib as the content and the cover. I have never been accused of subtlety, so this is again something I am looking to buy on the open market.
Front Matter: Meaning all that stuff about how, after describing your boss down to that funny wart on his nose, you really didn’t mean for this work of fiction to describe any H. sapiens, living or dead, (although if the guy keeled over, it wouldn’t be the end of the world). This includes the ISBN. It would be nice to have one’s own “imprint” but I really don’t want to be spending my time from now to mortality shipping off the occasional book. Let someone else do it.
Printer/Publisher: WHO and how much is now the question, isn’t it? I’m back at work and making money to shepherd my second baby through. Exiles’ Escape is 109900 words long, very near her old sister, Outland Exile (109400). The third’s and the end of the Malila-Jesse arc is tentatively named Malila of the Scorch.
Wish me well.
